New Release: Atchafalaya

I am pleased to announce, that I am officially releasing my latest long form ambient album out to the world, Atchafalaya.

Atchafalya - Cover 1.5k

Atchafalaya

Released: May 14, 2017

I recently took a trip down to New Orleans with my fiancée, and got to experience the city in a whole new light than I have before. It was a wonderful trip, and we had an amazing time. While I was there, I brought along my travel recorder and gear, and captured sounds inside and outside of the city. On our trip we visited The Singing Oak in City Park, Jackson Square, the swamps at Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve, rode the streetcars down and back on St. Charles Avenue, to name a few things… but those sounds below are what make up this hour long slow and wandering journey through NOLA and surrounding environments, just as it was on “New Orleans Time”.

The name itself comes from not only one of the amazing restaurants we ate at while we were there, but also the Atchafalaya River. While we did not visit the River on the trip, it provides more of a Southern Louisiana feel to this track, because all of the sounds captured were from both inside and outside of the city.

Listen, buy and stream at the following media outlets:

Atchafalaya will be available soon from all major digital media outlets such as iTunes, Amazon Music, Google Play, and more.

Announcing VR:1

Keith Richie

You may remember this post from a few short months ago where I announced a collaboration project with my good friend and fellow SharePoint/Musician Geoff Varosky that we are calling “VR”.

Well, today I’m very happy and proud to announce to you the fruits of our collaboration in the form of the VR:1 pre-release album.

VR:1 is a work in progress album as we finalize the mix/mastering for wide release.  This debut album constitutes the collective energy we both share in regards to ambient and electronic music, and is an absolute pleasure to work on.

Please give it a listen through and let us know your thoughts!

Disclaimer: As noted on the bandcamp page for VR:1, this is a “work in progress” album, and any purchase towards this album entitles you to the final version once complete.  Therefore keep in mind that the final set of songs/versions of songs/ etc…

I made an album entirely out of Windows Vista default sounds once…

Yes. Yes I did. Used just some of the default Windows Vista sounds one time as source material to create this experimental ambient album 10 years ago… maybe one of the only good things to come of that Operating System?

Atchafalaya

I recently took a trip down to New Orleans with my Fiancé, and got to experience the city in a whole new light than I have before. It was a wonderful trip, and we had an amazing time.

We did a couple of things while we were there:

  • Ate really, really, really good food
  • Met with some friends we have not seen in a long time
  • Visited the Singing Oak at City Park (follow link for video)
  • Walked along the Mississippi
  • Ate some more really, really, really good food
  • Walked around Magazine Street
  • Walked around the French Quarter
  • Listened to street performers
  • Viewed some amazing art
  • Ate even more really, really, really good food
  • Visited the Tree of Life at Audubon Park
  • Rode the streetcar up and down St. Charles Ave
  • Gazed in amazement at all of the gorgeous mansions and houses in the Garden District
  • Drove across and back the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway (~24 miles each way over the lake)
  • Walked through the swamp at Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve
  • And visited the Singing Oak again

IMG_20170404_183441_processedThe Singing Oak easily became my new favorite place in New Orleans. Also, while I was there, I brought along my trusty travel recorded and gear, and captured sounds inside and outside of the city. Below is my take on the rendering and mixing of these sounds of one of my favorite cities.

It is long, slow, and wandering… just as if it was on New Orleans time.

The name itself comes from not only one of the amazing restaurants we ate at while we were there, but also the Atchafalaya River. While we did not visit the River on the trip, it provides more of a Southern Louisiana feel to this track, because all of the sounds captured were from both inside and outside of the city.

This is the first rough cut, so please be honest, even brutal in your comments if you need to be. All feedback is welcome and will help render the final version of this piece.

Thanks in advance for listening (and hopefully commenting!)

New Release – melatoninone

Melatonin One - Cover - with textI am pleased to announce my latest release – melatoninone. This will be the first in a series of long-form dreamscapes from musical nature – for when you need long, flowing, minimalist, distant, calming music.

Melatonin is a hormone, and is also a supplement sold at pretty much every pharmacy out there… it helps with sleep, but is a lot more “chill” than taking something like Ambien, which just knocks you out cold, or it does me at least.

The pineal gland in your brain secretes melatonin once it starts to get dark, telling the body that it is time to go to sleep. For someone like myself who at the end of a long day, it can sometimes take hours to eventually nod off and escape into the dreamworld. So from time to time, I will take a melatonin supplement.

The dreams you experience when you take melatonin, or at least, that I have experienced, are generally more vivid than a normal night’s sleep. I also like to listen to music when I fall asleep, specifically, long form minimal ambient music at a low volume, or playing from another room, just like this album. The two combined are where the inspiration for this album came from, as well as the upcoming releases in this series. I hope you enjoy it.

Please have a listen, and let me know what you think.

The Layers App

The other day I finally got around to posting my latest release, Layers3: Abstractions to SoundCloud.

Layers1, Layers2, and Layers3: Abstractions are 3 minimal long form releases designed to be used either by themselves, or together, in any order. Think of it as an art installation.

Shortly after posting the release to SoundCloud, someone liked one of the tracks from Layers3, and posted the following comment:

layers512What a brilliant idea! I recently started building some Android apps (Donation Estimator and MX Lookup), so I decided to take on this challenge as well! So, after a couple days, I have put together an Android App, which can be found in the Google Play App Store – Layers.

If you wouldn’t mind… please download it, and let me know what you think if you wouldn’t mind?

It may very well be buggy… but I am new to Android app development, so please take it easy on me.

I have some similar ideas that are kicking around along the same lines as well… so I will keep you posted here on my blog.
